Shimla: Senior Indian Police Officer, Jagjit Kumar, who was serving as IG Railways and traffic, allegedly shot himself dead past the mid-night hour, police said.
“A lady called up at about 3.30 a.m. informing about the senior police officer having shot himself,” said a spokesman of Kasumpati police post. A police team found the officer dead in the house with a bullet injury to the head.
“It appears to be a case of suicide,” said RM Sharma, police superintendent Shimla district. Though the police got information later but the suicide is believed to have taken place between 1 and 2 a.m., he added.
The pistol of the officer was found near the body.A case has been registered and the death is being investigated.
Jagjit Kumar, a 1985 batch IPS officer, is survived by a son and a daughter.
